Hermes is a privately owned, multi-specialist asset manager, independent of any broader financial services organisation.  Established in 1983, we manage in excess of £21 billion (as at 30th September 2009) on behalf of long-term investors, including pension funds, endowments and charities.   Hermes is owned by the BT Pension Scheme, the UK's largest funded occupational pension scheme, and this unique relationship provides us with a privileged insight into the requirements of, and issues faced by, long-term investors.
