Suri Sehgal has spent most of his life working in the food industry but now he is working hard to reduce poverty in the country of his birth, India

Suri Sehgal sounds tired. It’s 9am and he’s spent the last three days at the World Food Prize, an event that honours those who have improved the world’s food supply. This year it was presented to two former presidents, Ghana’s John Agyekum Kufuor and Brazil’s Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, for the work they’ve done to reduce poverty and malnutrition in their home countries.

Super rich blame tax laws for reduced philanthropy

With philanthropy in the UK at its lowest level since the beginning of the financial crisis, the latest survey by JP Morgan Private Bank on ultra-high net worth individuals’ charitable habits hasn’t given much to cheer about.

The survey, which questioned around 100 UK-based UHNW clients of the bank, revealed that around half of them give over 5% of their wealth to charity, while three-quarters give regularly to charitable causes.
