Lodha Group follows common Indian succession plan by splitting business

Indian family real estate business Lodha Group will be split into two entities to ease succession planning into the second generation – a strategy that is common in India, according to a family business academic based in the country.

Lodha Group chairman and founder Mangal Prabhat Lodha plans to appoint his eldest son, Abhishek, 36, to the helm of the real estate business, while his younger son, Abhinandan, 33, will head a new financial services business.

News Corp’s board approves plan to split the family business

Plans to split News Corporation into two separate companies have been given the go ahead, after the media conglomerate’s board voted in favour of the division.

The company confirmed on 28 June the board has tasked management with looking at how family-controlled News Corp could be split into an entertainment business on one side and a publishing and education company on the other.

The Essel Group, a major player in the entertainment space, has just completed restructuring that aligns ownership of each business with the family member currently managing it. The fifth generation of Kirloskar Group has also announced a restructuring that aims to facilitate increased identity of ownership for individual family units.
