Overlay the bottom chart below and you would be forgiven for believing that we are now on the same trajectory as we were 50 years ago. There are parallels but to assume the economy will meet the same inflationary fate would be a grave mistake for investors.

Thirty-five per cent of family office CEOs are female, according to a new report, compared to just 4.6% in the S&P 500.Thirty-five per cent of family office CEOs are female, according to a new report, compared to just 4.6% in the S&P 500.

The diversity of families appears to be reflected in family office personnel – at least when it comes to gender – research from Family Office Exchange (FOX) and US advisory firm Grant Thornton suggests.

In a survey of 112 family offices, 35% were headed by a female chief executive, said the 2015 FOX Family Office Compensation and Benefits Report, compared to 4.6% in the S&P 500. In a release FOX said the gender statistics had been “surprising”.

Bill Ford, executive chairman of family-controlled carmaker Ford, last week sold 3.4 million common shares and stock options in the company, worth around $28 million.

He also received his first wage in five years, according to an email to Ford employees reported in the Wall Street Journal. Ford (pictured) pledged he would forgo his salary until the company was once again in a strong financial situation.

James Murdoch could net nearly $20 million in his new post at News Corp.

James Murdoch (pictured) could net nearly $20 million in his new post at News Corp. He will receive a base salary of $3.4 million in his role as head of Asian and European operations and could also earn bonuses of approximately $16 million.

However, he still has some way to go to match his father's wealth. Rupert Murdoch, CEO of News Corp, earns a reported salary of $8.1 million. He also owns 30% of the firm and is worth an estimated $9 billion.
