If you add up all of the listed oil majors (BP, Royal Dutch Shell, ExxonMobil, Chevron etc) you get a market cap less than 40% of Apple’s $2.5 trillion (1). It looks decidedly like a one way track, reflecting an irreversible change to investor sentiment, indicative of a future no longer powered by fossil fuels.

While 2021 has started not unlike how much of 2020 played out, with Covid-19 infections continuing to spread and many countries reimplementing lockdown measures, the approval and rollout of various vaccines to combat the coronavirus has been an undeniable game-changer for markets. It's provided a clearer road map for a return to some form of normality, although the path ahead is still likely to remain bumpy, with continued uncertainties in the offing.

AP Moller-Maersk is to sell its oil and gas assets to French firm Total for $7.45 billion, a decision the matriarch of the founding family described as “difficult, but right”.

The agreement follows an announcement late last year by Maersk that it would split its operations into two entities, one focussed on energy (Maersk Oil), the other on container shipping, ports and logistics (Maersk Line).

Pacc Offshore Services Holdings (Posh) is listing 337.6 million shares and is expected to raise about SGD$375 million (€216 million).

Posh is an offshore support vessel business for the oil and gas sector that also provides floating accommodation for oil workers.
