News Corporation, the Murdoch family-controlled media empire, has confirmed that it does not expect James Murdoch to be part of the takeover negotiations for satellite broadcaster BSkyB.

News Corporation, the Murdoch family-controlled media empire, has confirmed that it does not expect James Murdoch to be part of the takeover negotiations for satellite broadcaster BSkyB.

However avoiding a conflict of interest appears impossible for James, who is son of News Corp chairman and CEO Rupert. He is currently non-executive chairman of BSkyB, and News Corp said it expects him to remain as chairman of the UK-based company.

Rupert Murdoch, the family head of media empire News Corporation, announced yesterday that the company plans to expand its presence in the Middle East and base its operations there in Abu Dhabi.

According to a filing made on Tuesday with the Securities and Exchange Commission in the US, Lachlan's trust sold 2.3 million Class A News Corp shares for $28.3 million. This sale follows a similar one last week that saw Lachlan (pictured) sell another 2.3 million shares.

Rupert Murdoch has unveiled News Corporation veteran Chase Carey as his new right hand man. Carey replaces Peter Chernin, described as being “a trusted friend” by Murdoch, who leaves on 1 July.

Carey, who spent 15 years as a senior executive at News Corp before becoming CEO of The DIRECTV Group in 2003, becomes deputy chairman, president and COO. Reporting to Murdoch, he will have an oversight of the group's global operations and join the board of directors.

Lachlan Murdoch is believed to be eyeing up investment opportunities in Indonesia, according to reports that the son of media magnate Rupert Murdoch has met with Indonesian tycoon James Riady.

Lachlan Murdoch (pictured) is believed to be eyeing up investment opportunities in Indonesia, according to reports that the son of media magnate Rupert Murdoch has met with Indonesian tycoon James Riady.

Marshall Cooper, a commissioner at First Media, an internet company owned by the Riady family, confirmed that Murdoch was in Jakarta last week visiting a number of the Riady family’s real estate projects, as well as its newspaper in Jakarta.

He said there had been no discussions about any specific investments between Riady and Murdoch.
