Lavazza to acquire Carte Noire for €800 million

Lavazza, the family-run Italian coffee maker, has put in a formal bid to acquire French brand Carte Noire for €800 million ($879 million).

According to a company statement, the deal will treble the company’s turnover in France and will help it grow organically in the surrounding regions.

CampdenFB announced the winners of the Families in Business Awards 2013 last night at the Cercle National des Armées in Paris – recognising family businesses that excel in governance, stewardship and, of course, business.

Finnish automotive company Broman Group has taken the top honour at this year's CampdenFB European Families in Business Awards, while Spanish fashion and fragrance house Puig has been recognised with the inaugural lifetime achievement award for its exemplary stewardship of the third-generation business.

Headed by fourth-gen Alberto Lavazza, the Italian family business has plans to create a potential 400 Lavazza Espression cafes in the UK over the coming decade, with the first 50 opening in the next two years.
