The 74-year-old will be given the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun, thanks to his role in “strengthening and developing the economic relation between Japan and India”, a statement by the Japanese Embassy said.

Sigma Corporation, the Japanese camera and lens maker, will remain under the founding family's control despite the death of the company’s patriarch and chief executive, Michihiro Yamaki, who died of cancer on 18 January at the age of 78.

In a statement released on 27 January, Sigma Corporation said the ownership and management of the firm will remain with the Yamaki family.

"Yamaki will be sadly missed but his energetic, capable and compassionate leadership style will be carried forward by his son, Kazuto Yamaki," the company said.

Brothers Alexandre and Adriono Schincariol, who own 50.45% of the brewing group through a holding company called Aleadri-Schinni Participacoes e Representacoes, sold their entire stake to Tokyo-based Kirin Holdings, according to a statement issued on 2 August.

Around 30% of Afghan GDP derives from the export of opium and much of the money goes to the insurgency, as well as farmers and drivers. The rest of the economy is shot to pieces. There is no other way to keep busy, or make money.

The Japan-based company recorded revenues of 9,678 billion yen (€84 billion) for the six months ending 30 September, an increase of 15% on the same period last year, and operating income of 289 billion yen.

Toyota Motor Corporation, the family-controlled automaker, announced this morning it has returned to profit in the first quarter of 2010 despite the problems it is facing due to an ongoing recalls crisis.

In a statement released today, Toyota said quarterly revenues had increased to 5.28 trillion yen from 3.54 trillion for the same figure in 2009. The company also highlighted other positives including saving 520 billion yen through cost reduction and 470 billion yen from reducing fixed costs.
