Rubin family’s Pentland shifts from Brexit Britain to Ireland

Pentland Group, the British Rubin family-controlled owner of sports brands Speedo and Lacoste and majority owner of high street retailer JD Sports, has moved offshore because of Brexit.

However, the $9 billion group said its daily trade will stay in the UK and be taxed under UK jurisdiction.

Providing loans to companies has historically been one of the main components of commercial banking activity and goes back hundreds of years. Today, private debt comes in many forms, but most commonly involves non-bank institutions making loans to private companies based on the cashflows generated by the respective business, or for the acquisition of a hard asset (eg, real estate) or acquiring existing loans on the secondary market.

The Firm? We learned from Harry and Meghan’s interview with Oprah Winfrey that is what the royal family call their family business. It’s a very appropriate term. As a family business, they own and manage land and castles, some of which they rent out, support multiple charitable ventures, play an extensive public role in the UK drawing on multiple publicity avenues to support its image and brand, and employ scores of employees who are valued for their loyalty and commitment. It's a huge and complex business.

Asia-Pacific and North American business families of wealth have powered the record-breaking growth in the number of family offices by more than one-third in only two years.

The total estimated assets under management of family offices stands at $5.9 trillion, while the wealth of the families behind them totals a vast $9.4 trillion.
