RBC and Capgemini’s World Wealth Report, which surveyed more than 5,000 individuals, also found that strong economic and equity market performance has created 920,000 new millionaires worldwide in 2014.

The India Wealth Report, which was released by a local wealth management firm, said the 11% rate of growth in wealth this year made India one of the fastest-growing HNW populations in the world.

Demand for gold, a symbol of wealth in India, will also see a boost in 2012, said the research by Karvy Private Wealth.

High net worth individuals in the UK, some of them family business members, are the biggest donators of £1 million (€1.17 million) or more to charities in the country, despite an overall decline in giving, according to a report by private bank Coutts.

Out of a total of 174 million-pound-plus donations made during 2009/2010, 60% of the money came from the very wealthy, said the study entitled The Million Pound Donors Report 2011.

The number of high net worth individuals in Asia looks set to soar over the next four years, thanks to currency appreciation and massive economic growth in the continent, according to a new report.

Swiss private banking group Julius Baer said wealth in the region is expected to triple in the next few years to $15.81 trillion from $5.60 trillion, while the number of high net worth individuals will jump to 2.82 million from 1.16 million.
