Pernod Ricard goes upmarket in acquisition and distribution strategy

Pernod Ricard, the French third-generation wines and spirits giant, is set to acquire a majority stake in a family-owned premium Columbian rum as part of its “Transform and Accelerate” strategic plan.

Pernod Ricard also embarked on a collaboration with Lafayette Imports, a new company founded by Biggar and Leith partners Elwyn Gladstone and Mark Teasdale, to boost its “super-premium” branding in the United States.

Merck to acquire US Sigma-Aldrich for $17 billion 

German pharmaceutical company Merck, 70% owned by the eponymous founding family, has agreed to buy US firm Sigma-Aldrich for $17 billion (€13.3 billion) in order to bolster its laboratory supplies business.

The Benetton family, founders of the international clothing group that bears its name, is pulling out of its investment in the Italian communication company Telecom Italia.

The Benetton family, founders of the international clothing group that bears its name, is pulling out of its investment in the Italian communication company Telecom Italia.
 
The family is part of a shareholder consortium, the Telco Group, which owns the Italian company's largest stake with 24.5%. The Benettons were the smallest investors in the group with an 8.4% stake.
