The youngest son of the Hilton Hotels founder father was as devoted to philanthropic causes as he was to the family business.

Eric Michael Hilton, retired vice chairman of Hilton Hotels Corporation, died of natural causes in his home in Las Vegas on 10 December 2016. He was 83.

Born in El Paso, Texas in 1933, Eric Hilton was raised by his mother, Mary Barron Hilton. During high school, he excelled as a left-handed pitcher and was offered a contract to play for a minor league baseball team in Bisbee-Douglas, Arizona.

Four business-owning family members have been named in the top 20 American philanthropists in a new poll which provides an annual analysis of the largest charitable contributions.

Barron Hilton, 80, chairman of the Hilton Hotel Corporation, came second in the list – The 2007 Slate 60 – with a $1.2 billion donation to his father’s trust, The Conrad N Hilton Foundation, which donates money to help the world’s most disadvantaged people. The contribution came from proceeds from the sale of Hilton Hotels Corporation and the pending sale of Harrah’s Entertainment.
