As a private and corporate philanthropist, I am saddened by the lack of smart corporate giving by the number of companies who embark on charity as a mitigating, guilt trip activity rather than one that infuses the corporate DNA. So many are still failing to employ the same levels of due diligence and strategic thinking they apply to earning money, to giving.

A new award named in honour of an Institute for Private Investors member aims to be for young philanthropists what the Nobel Prize was for Mother Theresa.

The Dennis M Jones Family Foundation and the institute have launched the inaugural Jones Prize in Philanthropy. The prize of a $25,000 grant will be given to a charity that has been aided by the efforts of an individual, under the age of 40, who has demonstrated exceptional work in philanthropy.

A remarkable 62% of family offices are now active or expect to be active in impact investing, the new Global Family Office Report by Campden Wealth in partnership with UBS reveals.

Even the 30% of family office principals surveyed who were not active now said this was likely to change in the future.

The study found Millennials were a key catalyst with two-thirds of participants agreeing families with children born after 1980 will see an increase in requests to participate in impact investing.
