Fourth generation joins the board of family-controlled Hearst

George R Hearst III has been appointed to the management board of Hearst Corporation, the media company founded by his great-grandfather in founded in 1887.
 
George, 54, joins his father George Hearst Jr (pictured), who is chairman of the board and has also served as CEO, along with five other family members on the management board, whose directors are elected by the Hearst Family Trust.
 
George R Hearst III is the publisher of the Albany Times Union, where he has worked since joining the company in 1989. Non-family executives Richard Malloch, Scott Sassa and Steven Swartz have also joined the board, taking the number of directors up to 20.
 
Hearst Corporation is one of America's largest diversified media companies with interests in newspapers, magazines, television stations and cable networks. It was founded by William Randolph Hurst and most recent figures put company revenues at $4.5 billion.
