A flurry of English language courts opened in European cities, touting for business that would otherwise come to the English High Court. We know that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, so is it any surprise that litigants—including ultra-wealthy clients—still choose the English Courts to resolve their disputes?

The Italian Alessi family behind some of the most recognisable designer homeware products in the world has sold a 40% share of its business for an undisclosed sum to a UK private equity firm.

Revenue for the full year fell after more than a decade of strong growth to DKK 35 billion ($5.8 billion) from DKK 37.9 billion ($6.3 billion) in 2016. The decline came despite a Lego movie and Star Wars merchandise tie-ins and the royal opening of the Lego House family attraction last year.

AP Moller-Maersk is to sell its oil and gas assets to French firm Total for $7.45 billion, a decision the matriarch of the founding family described as “difficult, but right”.

The agreement follows an announcement late last year by Maersk that it would split its operations into two entities, one focussed on energy (Maersk Oil), the other on container shipping, ports and logistics (Maersk Line).
